Abstract
As the design industry continues to evolve, people are not only setting higher standards for design and aesthetics but are also placing greater emphasis on the cultural significance embedded in design. However, due to the steadily lowering barriers to entry in the design industry, most graphic designs on the market suffer from a lack of originality. Designs often remain superficial, lacking a foundation in local cultural heritage, which makes it difficult for works to develop a unique competitive edge and significantly diminishes their social and cultural value—a trend that hinders the industry’s development. Traditional Chinese patterns, having evolved over thousands of years and deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture, feature not only a wide range of themes but also a rich variety of forms, offering abundant inspiration for modern graphic design. Based on this, this paper first introduces the development of traditional Chinese patterns and modern graphic design, and second, explores the social and cultural value of applying traditional Chinese patterns to modern graphic design.
