Abstract

This paper takes A Dream of Red Mansions, a classical Chinese masterpiece, as the research object, and explores the artistic characteristics of the cinematographic presentation of classical literary works through an in-depth analysis of the formation and evolution of the directing style in the process of adaptation of its film and television works. This paper first summarizes the literary value of the original work of A Dream of Red Mansions and the historical background of the film and television adaptation, emphasizing its status as the pinnacle of ancient Chinese novels and the significance of being put on the screen for many times. Then, from the aspects of lens language, narrative structure, role shaping and so on, this paper analyzes in detail the styles of directors and their changing trends in different versions of film and television works. The early version focused on simple narrative and faithful restoration, while the modern version puts more emphasis on visual effects and emotional expression, creating a unique atmosphere through light and shade. The writers and directors also have different focuses on the portrayal of characters, some faithful to the original work, and some modern interpretation. This paper summarizes the issues that film and television directors should pay attention to in the adaptation of classic literary works, such as how to balance innovation and fidelity to the original works, how to adapt to the audience's aesthetic changes, in order to provide reference for future film and television creation.
