She entered the water supply and drainage engineering major of Tongji University in 1970 and graduated to teach in 1974. She obtained a master's degree in engineering from Tongji University in 1994 and a doctorate in engineering from Tongji University in 1999. In 1986, she went to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand to participate in computer application classes for 3 months. From 2001 to 2002, she was a visiting professor at the National Gifu University in Japan for one year. She has visited many countries like France, Britain, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia for academic exchange visits. She has served as a teaching assistant, lecturer and associate professor at Tongji University. She used to be the director of the water supply and drainage department of Tongji University, the secretary of the party branch, and the director of the Institute of Water Technology. She also serves as the deputy director of the Water Supply and Drainage Engineering Professional Steering Committee of the Ministry of Construction; the Civil Engineering Discipline Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Construction; the Building Water Supply and Drainage Committee of the China Engineering Construction Standardization Association; the Drainage Branch of the Building Water Supply and Drainage Committee and the Fire Protection Branch. She has been or is concurrently serving as the editorial board of magazines such as China Water & Wastewater, Water & Wastewater Engineering, Environmental Pollution & Control, Water Resources Protection; Experts of the National Survey and Design Registered Engineer Basic Exam Expert Group and Water Network Consulting Experts; International Member of the Water Association (IWA).

Presided over the "Eleventh Five-Year" national major water special topics, national support plans and the National Natural Science Foundation; responsible for the national 863 sub-topics, "Twelfth Five-Year" national water special sub-topics, etc. She has edited 3 academic monographs, 1 deputy editor, and 1 deputy editor. She has published more than 400 papers in Chinese and foreign academic journals together with students, and more than 200 papers have been included in SCI; 25 invention patents have been authorized. The first and second finishers won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011 and 2014 respectively; the third finisher won two provincial and ministerial teaching first prizes. In 2011, she was awarded an excellent member of the Shanghai Education Commission system.
