This paper comprehensively analyzed the role of lutein in the prevention of myopia progression. Myopia, especially in adolescents, has become an increasingly serious global problem. As a natural carotenoid, lutein is considered to be effective in preventing the development of myopia. This article first reviews the research progress on the effect of lutein on myopia, and then elaborates on the antioxidant properties of lutein, its regulatory effect on the intraocular environment, and its important role in maintaining visual development. In addition, this paper also discusses the methods of preventing myopia by reasonable intake of lutein and the use of lutein supplements, as well as the matters and challenges that should be paid attention to in this process. Finally, the article summarizes the potential of lutein in preventing myopia and proposes future research directions.
